Our voice remains the primary method of communication for people of all ages. An estimated 28 million people in the United States depend on their voice for their profession including teachers, clergy, lawyers, salespersons as well as singers/actors.
The Center for Voice & Speech (located in Jacksonville, Florida) serves to diagnose, treat and prevent voice disorders. Utilizing state of the art technologies and techniques, the Center for Voice & Speech combines a multidisciplinary approach to provide a comprehensive evaluation and care for patients with voice disorders.
During the initial examination a complete assessment of the patient is performed by Dr. Don N. Lerner, MD a board-certified Ear, Nose & Throat surgeon (Otolaryngologist), along with an evaluation by a certified Speech-Language Pathologist. The most up-to-date equipment (videostroboscopy) is used for viewing the larynx (voice box), which provides a more accurate and detailed analysis not visible with traditional methods. As voice disorders may be signs of other medical problems, our multidisciplinary approach to treating voice disorders under the direction of Dr. Lerner, may involve other specialists such as neurologists, gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, psychologists and voice teachers.
